Ready or not, the new year is firmly here and whether you’re a “new year, new you” optimist or an “it’s just an arbitrary date on the calendar” realist, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the new year and new decade with our new Tierra Wools!
Yes, dear friends, if you haven’t heard the news yet, hear it now: Tierra Wools is moving to Chama!
We’re awfully excited about the changes coming in the new year for Tierra Wools because of how much these changes are going to benefit our customers and our staff. Our old rental location was, well, old (and literally falling down around our ears, if we’re honest), and we decided that the time had come to develop a place of our own that we can be proud of and that will offer our guests, students, and staff an exceptional (and comfortable) space to spend their time.
Maybe the best part of our new location is that Tierra Wools will now be easy to find! Our new location is just south of Chama on US Highway 64/84. The new Tierra Wools shop and studio is set off from the highway on beautiful wooded grounds with ample parking space for our guests (and maybe a picnic or two!). Our students will enjoy the fact that we are now conveniently located near Chama’s variety of places to stay, eat, and play. (The Chama train is just 5 minutes away from our shop!) The new weaving studio is lighter and brighter with a more functional classroom layout that will enhance the learning experience for our student weavers. Yarn dyeing enthusiasts will appreciate the close proximity of our new location to plant gathering areas for the natural dyeing process and a comfortable classroom space in the dye house for concocting those beautiful new colors. We’re expanding our equipment range to offer you an even better selection of looms, spinning wheels, and other notions to further your fibercraft hobbies. And if you only know us through our online presence at www.handweavers.com, rest assured that our new location is going to serve you better too: we’ll be streamlining our order fulfillment and shipping department so that our staff can fill your orders more efficiently so you receive your orders more expeditiously.
But if all this newness is making some of you old Tierra Wools fans a little nervous, let us assure you about what we’re not changing: we’ll still be offering the same high quality yarns and warp that you expect from us, including our hand-dyed 100% organic wool Navajo Churro range from Shepherd’s Lamb. Our weaving classes will still use the same handmade Rio Grande looms we’ve had for almost 40 years, and you’ll still receive the same personal attention and hands-on experience from the same Tierra Wools instructors. And, as always, our showroom will still feature our wide selection of Rio Grande-style weavings made by area weavers and our carefully curated collection of fiber-based pieces from other local artists.
Come weave a new decade with us at our new Tierra Wools!
“And now let us believe in a long year ahead that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been.”
-Rainer Maria Rilke
