As we approach the end of this crazy year, we'd like to take an opportunity to look back on all the beautiful fiber creations that Tierra Wools and our fiber family have created over the past year. The act of making grounds us all and gives us a sense of purpose: we'd like to celebrate that impulse which we all share in this collection of creations made by Tierra Wools artisans and members of our fiber family throughout 2020. We hope you find this collection as inspiring as we do!
January
We spent a lot of time last winter preparing the New Tierra Wools storefront in Chama, New Mexico. Even our staff and helpers can’t help but pause on occasion to admire our yarns!
February
More work on the new shop! Putting the new weaving studio together was perhaps the most challenging parts. Our Rio Grande looms are big, heavy, and have lots of moving parts!
March
Molly spent some time this month weaving a beautiful tapestry in the beautiful blues and purples of the mountains surrounding the Chama valley at sunset.
April
Inspiration from our fiber family began pouring in this month with a clever idea for a crocheted rug and a colorful striped weaving, both using Shepherd’s Lamb Organic Churro Wool.
May
Our fiber family was busy with some stunning tapestry weaving in May! This cute sweater was made by one of our fiber family knitters using Shepherd’s Lamb Organic Rambouillet 2 ply sports weight yarn.
June
Our weaving, spinning, and dyeing classes offer a little something for everyone! We’re always so pleased to see the finished pieces created by our students (far right). The yarn for the wrap (far left) was hand-dyed by one of our former students using the methods she learned at Tierra Wools in our dyeing studio (center).
July
Molly demonstrated spinning on one of Tierra Wools’ big wheels this month and another happy student proudly shows off her completed weaving!
August
August was a busy month at the new Tierra Wools! These ladies were hard at work in our new weaving studio and they produced some lovely projects. It was wonderful to see old friends again and make some new ones!
September
Alexis shared a pattern for knitted mittens using Shepherd’s Lamb Rambouillet Wool/Mohair blend, Molly created a lovely tapestry of mesas, and one of our fiber friends showed off a fair isle pattern in Shepherd’s Lamb Organic Rambouillet 2 ply sports weight yarn.
October
The skills our students learn in our weaving classes are a gift that will last a lifetime! This month, we celebrated with our students as they completed their weaving projects and enjoyed a photo sent in by another fiber friend of a beautiful lace scarf made with Shepherd’s Lamb Organic Rambouillet 2 ply sports weight yarn.
November
We love to see our students’ original creations, especially when they feature bold designs and color combinations - nice work!
December
Helen and Alexis were busy this month crafting these delightful wool mittens and caps for sale in our online store.
Thanks for joining us on our fiber journey this year - we sincerely appreciate all the letters and photos you send to us. We wish all of you a happy New Year and can’t wait to create with you in 2021!
