The fun alternating stripe pattern of this hat was created by knitting the number of rolls as determined from the roll of a die! Use any combination of colors you like; here we chose a cool blue olive paired with a deep sage green.
Size - Adult Medium (22-25 inch circumference)
Materials
2 contrasting skeins of Shepherd’s Lamb Certified Organic Rambouillet Wool
1 US size 4 16-inch circular needle
4 US size 4 double-pointed needles
1 die for determining rows per color
Stitch marker for beginning of round
Tapestry needle for finishing
Knit the Band
With the circular needle, cast on 132 stitches from one skein, place the stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round and join the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Roll the die! Work in rib stitch (k1, p1) around for the number of rows specified by the die. Change yarn colors and repeat: roll the die and work in rib stitch for the number of rows specified by the die. Continue alternating yarn colors in the number of rows specified by the die until the brim measures about 5 inches (or desired length).
Continuing to roll the die to determine the row count and alternating colors accordingly, switch to stockinette stitch (k around) and work until hat measures 8.5-9 inches from cast on edge.
Shape the crown
Continuing to roll the die for row count and alternating colors, begin crown decrease as follows
Round 1: *k11, k2 together. Repeat from * around.
All even rounds: k even.
Round 3: *k10, k2 together. Repeat from * around.

Break yarn leaving a long tail. Thread yarn through remaining stitches and pull to close the crown. Weave in any loose ends. Block and wear your roll of the dice hat!
